General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

She didn't compare to a lettuce. She actually lost to a lettuce.

[–] Digestive_Biscuit 3 points 2 years ago

And the lettuce didn't try to crash the economy. It was miles ahead of her.

[–] scrchngwsl 50 points 2 years ago

Yet another thing she's wrong about

[–] ckempo 43 points 2 years ago

I thought her being compared to somebody capable of leading the country was a laugh, too.

[–] Free_Radical@kbin.social 35 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How does she think the lettuce felt?

[–] FlanFlinger@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Less limp and lifeless than she was

[–] mustyOrange@beehaw.org 20 points 2 years ago

I sure thought it was funny

[–] Calcharger@kbin.social 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Imagine all of the failures of your administration, and you take exception to the fact that your shelf date was compared to that of a vegetable.

If you weren't so bad at your job, the comparison wouldn't have been made. Work on it.

[–] Kerred@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

I think it's a clever form of deflection.

They want you to emphasize more on name and word calling so people don't headline actual things they did.

In the US politicians embrace the name calling, helps you get away with anything else. Trump makes orange jokes at his rallies and supporters love it as a more recent example.

I completely understand that for her it was not funny at all.

For everyone else, it was hilarious.

[–] lolpostslol@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I’m laughing right now, and everyone knows that denying something is funny just makes it funnier.

The only non-funny thing about this is that I can’t keep lettuce from spoiling in my fridge for a week, dunno what those people did

[–] Syldon 14 points 2 years ago

She is only sore because we made her leaf.

[–] rameez@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

Crashing the economy was not funny.

[–] jerome@kbin.social 11 points 2 years ago

Liz Truss being bad at her job hurts real people.

[–] fyrd 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It was so fecking unfunny.

Lettuce is tasty, healthy and useful. Liz was none of those things. It's a shame we spoiled the good name of lettuce.

[–] PelicanPersuader@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

The only thing thing they have in common is that lettuce helps you take a shit and Liz was shit.

[–] FlyLikeAMouse 7 points 2 years ago

She shouldn’t’ve been so bloody lettucey then.

It was hilarious. Liz Truss and her policies were puerile.

[–] pasci_lei@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

Because it was actually very funny.

[–] z500@startrek.website 3 points 2 years ago

It wasn't funny. It was fucking hilarious.

[–] atypicaloddity@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

I wouldn't trust her opinion on what's funny.

[–] yopyop@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 years ago

What about her "astonishing rise to power" ? a fabulous book

[–] ten4@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

lettuce in her head rent free

[–] HumanPenguin 4 points 2 years ago

Well she is correct. Having a PM that compared unfaverably to a lettuce. Was far from funny and should never have been allowed to happen.

[–] Timwi@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

Sounds like somebody was... not amused.

[–] Solaris1789@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago

Should have lasted longer than it

[–] KarsicKarl@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

Absolutely agree.

No-one ever took the lettuce's feelings into consideration.

[–] Jaysyn@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

No, it was hilarious.

There simply aren't enough bad things that can happen to Tories.

[–] TheUnicornOfPerfidy@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] StarkillerX42@lemmy.ml -2 points 2 years ago

No it wasn't funny. It was EXTREMELY FUNNY. Then it was even funnier when the lettuce won.

[–] Naich@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

It was fucking tragic.

[–] Bloonface@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

It was unfair for the lettuce, which still hasn't recovered.

Emotionally anyway. Career wise, it's doing much better.

[–] TheLazurus@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

I'll be honest, I thought it was funny as hell.

[–] Beardedsausag3@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Your honour, I disagree.

[–] doublejay3000 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] christophski 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's what happens when you make someone prime minister jsut because they're fit!

[–] lolpostslol@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

The lettuce is fit too

[–] digdilem 1 points 2 years ago

Just another thing she was wrong about.

[–] ElectronSoup@kbin.social 0 points 2 years ago

awww, poor baby

[–] spamfajitas@kbin.social -2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

puerile

Strong words for a person who thought running through a grain field was the naughtiest thing she'd ever done.

[–] kybernetikos@kbin.social 10 points 2 years ago

I think you're thinking of Theresa May. It's easy to mix UK prime minsters up, since they seem to change at a phenomenal rate.
