I got an abscess on my ass during summer of 2020. My video call (cause covid) with GP didn't include him viewing what I assumed was a hemorrhoid and so it got worse and worse for about five days. By the time I went to urgent care, the guy told me to go to the hospital ER and called ahead. They knew I was coming because it was so bad.
The doc who drained it told me that I was at the last point where it could be treated without major surgery. It took more than a month to heal because it kept getting reinfected. Finally, someone told me this was due to lack of fresh air on the wound. I spent a week lying on my side, holding my ass cheeks apart to air it fully. It finally healed. My muscles had atrophied from being on the couch for so long and I tired quickly when walking around the block. I hated that GP with a passion for not doing a proper exam and catching it early.
