It's really easy and this is how I remember:

  • The plastic inside the plughole is 'fat' and 'heavy'.
  • Heavy sinks.
  • Heavy is on the bottom

This works on pretty much every USB port. If it's vertical there's often a direction that feels like 'down'. Whether it's the bottom of the mobo or something else. So put the 'heavy' plastic on that side.
