"The damage is reduced by armor and most damage reduction effects like herbal armor and rock armor, but not by glyphs."

So, will blocking weapons (Rapier, Q Staff, Shield, Katana, G Shield) help reduce the pricking damage received from upgrading the chalice?

Edit : Sorry, seems like my bad english strike back. To make it clear, I did not mean the blocking enchantment but weapons with blocking capability (as listed in previous paragraph).

Blocking weapons give you shield when you hit an enemy. That shield will work to reduce the damage. Just holding the weapon does nothing

"when you hit an enemy"

Sorry, seems like my bad english strike back. To make it clear, I did not mean the blocking enchantment but weapons with blocking capability. If that is what you already catch from my post then thank you for the info, but if it isnt I hope this make it clear.

Right, in that case yes they will help, but for the later pricks their rather low blocking (compared to upgraded plate armor for example) won't do much. Shielding potions are a much safer alternative

I think I managed to get at least to +9 with mage's self-shielding with +10 staff, but I don’t remember if I already used Scroll of Challenge for that and if I managed to get to +10 without using blessed ankh.
