Everytime I start a game that has a story or progress or something like that (and I mean not games that are easy to get into and not complicated at all like fps games but I mean something more complex) and don't play it for some time I have such a hard time to play it again.

I mean an example is stardew valley or botw or even a minecraft world I started I can (these are just examples I remember off the top of my head there are more). I haven't played stardew valley in such a long time and I payed money for it and I know how amazing of a game it is but I can't get back to it becauseI feel overwhelmed or something and that I can't remember where I am or what I'm supposed to do, so I feel like just restarting but I don't really want to do that also because I have progress.

Does anyone else have something similar and know how I can get myself to come back to the games that are like this?

I feel like modern games with a decent budget need a 'I've been gone for a while' option on the title screen.

A quick tutorial that gives you a rundown on the controls so you can jog your muscle memory and a recap of all the major plot beats you've experienced so far in your save.

Dude especially the competitive games though. I’ve always erred towards those kinds of games and I’ve always been pretty decent at them.

I played Valorant for maybe six (?) months with the last time being about a year ago. I got to mid Plat so I was decentish. But now, coming back, I think the game is trying to match me with people of my old skill level and it is zero fun.

I’ve experienced this with a number of competitive games. They hold on to your mmr. But imo that mmr should start to degrade over time. Otherwise it just makes it so hard to get back into that game. IE Valorant. I was so stoked to get back into that game but now after a full day of getting my ass handed to me I just don’t know that I can do it. As competitive as I am - if I’m not having fun in a game I’m not going to keep playing
