All I really care about is getting it on Steam Deck. That would be great

MS could definitely do some sort of first party only gamepass offering that I imagine a lot of these companies could be open to

[–] Guitarist53188@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Once they get you in their eco system though they'll start charging online like they did with the consoles. Only reason they don't on PC is cause they have to compete WITH STEAM so sorry I rather not

[–] StrngBrew@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Well I mostly use my deck on the go so wouldn’t really be playing a lot of online games anyway. Plus I’d play those on my Xbox anyway

You don't want Gamepass on anything. This is a naked attempt at outright monopoly that will end with you owning nothing and paying for access. Microsoft wants everything behind a subscription paywall and to not actually sell games otherwise.

It only seems like a "good deal" right now because they're clawing for market-share. But the endgame of Gamepass is the death of modern gaming media under a Microsoft-run monopoly.

It's why they bought ActiBlizz, it's why they want to buy Valve and Nintendo, and it's why Phil Spencer patented Gamer^TM stated that if they don't get an absurd, unobtainable amount of subscriptions to Gamepass by 2030 they'll just shut down Xbox altogether.

It's an idiotic fucking move, and we're all going to suffer if they succeed. Nothing about this is pro-consumer.

If they had local play on the Steam Deck, I probably would have kept up my sub.

[–] Moistraven@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, native deck support for Game pass would keep me hooked in most likely.
As it stands, it's a paint getting it to work, or using a windows boot is...well, my controls work one day and explode the next. I had to stop my Persona 5 playthrough which was on my list for years, but I had to drop it because the controls just...stopped working on the deck w/ windows.

I just wanna add gamepass.exe or whatever to steam library and boot it up.

[–] MushinZero@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

My gamepass is just a steam library icon. The process isn't too bad.

You can do this with GloSC/GloSSI (the latter is a newer rewrite of the same tool). You can add any UWP app (including the Xbox app itself) to Steam with it. When you run the new 'Xbox' entry in Steam GloSC/GloSSI will open in the background and launch the associated app, and a virtual controller will be detected, which every game will see as a generic physical Xbox controller. GloSC/GloSSI then translates your Steam input to the virtual controller, avoiding any associated compatibility problems. I would suggest binding the trackpads to a mouse for easy controls, and also configuring Windows to automatically open the on-screen keyboard when typing, sleep on the power button and not show a lock screen on wake so it works just like SteamOS.

It can also create overlays for the Steam Big Picture UI allowing you to create a SteamOS-like experience, but I find it a bit inconsistent so YMMV.

Basically, install GloSC/GloSSI, use the app to add the Xbox app to Steam, and bind your controls for it in Steam to an Xbox controller.

You can use the app "greenlight."

It does both cloud streaming and remote play

[–] hesmells-mybikinis@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You can already play pretty much anything on steam deck via streaming your device to it.

[–] Buzielo@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Well Valve actually wants Game Pass on Steam but MS didn't do anything about it yet

[–] The_Legend_of_Xeno@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You can easily play Gamepass games on the Deck, at home at least, if you have a gaming desktop (like I'd assume most Deck owners do). You just setup Moonlight/Sunshine, install Game Pass on your desktop, and stream your desktop to the Deck. It works flawlessly on every game I've tried so far. There's zero input lag. The only way you can tell it isn't actually running on the Deck is that the game looks/performs too well, your Deck fan doesn't even turn on, and your battery lasts like 6 hours or more.

[–] HolyCowEveryNameIsTa@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Valve is not stopping them from doing it. MS could make a client for the steam deck tomorrow if they wanted to. Gabe has even said they'd help them do it.

[–] Snearky@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

It's already there, just chatted follow the instructions posted by Microsoft

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/xbox-cloud-gaming-in-microsoft-edge-with-steam-deck-43dd011b-0ce8-4810-8302-965be6d53296

But a game page on steamdeck would be way better.

[–] mallardtheduck@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It'll work on any Chromium-based browser, not just Edge. It nearly works in Firefox too, just some random screen freezes that make it unplayable for now.

[–] Effective_Mine_1222@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Cant cloud game on my train ride with no internet connection or in a plane

[–] metalkhaos@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

If they were that serious, they could work on a native Steam/Linux client, even if that was simply for streaming play. Making it easy/simple to get more people on it and into the ecosystem should be an easy win.

[–] mallardtheduck@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What would a "native" streaming client offer over the web version? Especially since any such "native" client would more than likely just be an Electron-packaged webpage anyway...

[–] metalkhaos@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Simply put, ease of use. They could package more Xbox-related stuff in there, like messaging or whatever. But literally just create it as a downloadable application through Steam itself. I'd assume perhaps the value isn't really there for MS, but it would give an easier access to their platform.

Came here to say this.
