Im not much of a gamer (ironically I make games for a living) but I made a bet with my kids that if the Detroit Lions make the playoffs this year I'll buy them a system, and its looking like almost a lock to happen, so I want to get in on some Holiday deals.

This is their first non-Nintendo system so I'm a little lost on which way to go at this point in the generation cycle. For reference they're 7 and 9 year old boys and are gonna be new to gaming that isnt based around crafting or Italian brothers. (i made them use my old NES, then SNES first, then got them a Switch a couple years back)

Get them a Vsmile (it's not Nintendo)

But seriously it depend of multiple thing, if it's for playing online, must look at the price of the subscription (don't know how it's on Xbox, but on Playstatio basically it's minimum 70€ for online and three game he probably never gonna play)

If it's for playing with friends, he "need" the same console (or same company console like PS5/PS4)

If it's offline, maybe playstation is better cause there is lot of offline games, Ratchet and Clank, Sackboy Big Adventure, Patapon, Gravity Rush, Medievil, Knack, Tearaway and depending what games you accept them to play (so you need to look at them before cause there is mostly blood present, but in the exemple i give, if you let them watch the first three Indiana Jones it's probably not a problem), there is Uncharted, Infamous, Final Fantasy VII, Spider-Man or Ghost of Tsushima

And all of theses exemples can't be played on Xbox or Switch (generally), cause there is also multiplateform games like A Hat in Time, Asssasin's Creed, Rayman Legends (this one is perfect), Lego games, Psychonauts, Tomb Raider, Little Nightmare and lot of other

To resume, if the friends have a Xbox to play online, Xbox seem the best choice (after i know nothing about xbox, all i know is that Halo is THE game to play on Xbox)

For the rest it seem Playstation is better
