I wouldn’t say chills but one of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced was, oddly enough, from RDR1. When John Marston crossed over into Mexico for the first time after that gnarly river fight. The horse is there waiting and you gallop off into the Mexican countryside and Far Away by Jose Gonzalez starts to play. It was a sublime moment. I’ve gone through fresh play throughs of that game just to have that moment again as it only happens that once.
It's such a beautiful moment and made all the more special because the game gives you a few minutes just to be present with the character and contemplate what John leaves behind.
I think it's also one of the best uses of music in a video game.
I've been a fan of Jose Gonzalez ever since. We had a guitarist play some music during our pop-up wedding ceremony and I chose Gonzalez's cover of Heartbeats as one of my picks.
I remember that I thought that when you take that first walk under the stars at the beginning; I had never seen a sky like that in a videogame. Then the ride into Mexico hits and you get that sunset. That's cinematography right there.
