Im not much of a gamer (ironically I make games for a living) but I made a bet with my kids that if the Detroit Lions make the playoffs this year I'll buy them a system, and its looking like almost a lock to happen, so I want to get in on some Holiday deals.

This is their first non-Nintendo system so I'm a little lost on which way to go at this point in the generation cycle. For reference they're 7 and 9 year old boys and are gonna be new to gaming that isnt based around crafting or Italian brothers. (i made them use my old NES, then SNES first, then got them a Switch a couple years back)

This sub is recommending OP a PS5 saying how they can play the exclusives BUT almost all of Sony's exclusives are Teen+. No, a 9 YR old should NOT play the Last of us or GoW. Wth is wrong with people in this sub man. XSS makes the most sense for a kid imo, has 100s of E rated games on GP.

Like rating means anything anymore. FIFA/NBA is rated E and have become essentially slot machines amd a den of gambling. It's hilarious how the ESRB just lets that shit slide.

A lot of those Teen ratings are mostly for language and depicting shit like alcohol. The ratings are so broad that they don't really mean anything besides giving some parents a sense that they're making the "right decision" for their kids.

Yeah but the consolé may last until they are old enough to play 9 to 13 is just 4 years, and You don't need the next gen consolé when it comes out with barely any games

I don’t think too many people actually follow the age restrictions on games lol

I don’t see how they couldn’t play the ratchet and clank games or spider-man…

Spider-man is rated Teen for a reason. It has a lot of parts that aren’t really suitable for kids under 10.

No one sticks to the age ratings. Be real. 13 year olds like myself and my millions of others were playing gta 5 and that was a 18.

Why do you think a kid can't play GoW? When I was their age kids loved the original GoW trilogy which was a lot more adult/explicit. The new one isn't too bad unless you consider hacking apart dark elves and norse zombies to be too adult for a 9 year old. I loved games like that at that age.

I can kind of understand The Last of Us, but also literally every kid I knew when I was younger was hugely into zombie games. Hopping into cod zombies or left 4 dead was an obsession for kids and teens alike.

There's also other great exclusives like Horizon ZD/FW, Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet and Clank, Spiderman franchise, FF16, Demon's Souls Remake, Returnal, Astro's Playroom, Kena Bridge of Spirits, Sackboy Big Adventure. There are also a boatload of E rated games from the PS4 generation which are all available on the PS5.

Keep in mind too that they already have been gaming on Switch a lot so they have had a ton of experience with E rated content and I would not be surprised in the least if they are itching to play some more teen-targeted stuff like PG-13 content.

Plus kids these days don't even play single player games, the majority play multiplayer games, most of them free, in my experience they don't care about exclusives.
