Im not much of a gamer (ironically I make games for a living) but I made a bet with my kids that if the Detroit Lions make the playoffs this year I'll buy them a system, and its looking like almost a lock to happen, so I want to get in on some Holiday deals.

This is their first non-Nintendo system so I'm a little lost on which way to go at this point in the generation cycle. For reference they're 7 and 9 year old boys and are gonna be new to gaming that isnt based around crafting or Italian brothers. (i made them use my old NES, then SNES first, then got them a Switch a couple years back)

More value for your money if you go Xbox and game pass. So many free games

[–] T_S_Anders@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I don't think you understand what a subscription is. You're paying for the games already, they aren't free.

They're not free if you're paying upfront fee to play those games. This like saying Netflix offers so many free movies and TV shows, but they don't. Yes, the subscription is cheaper than buying the games individually but you don't have much choice on what gets added just the choice to play what's already been added.

When you pay the same price just to be able to play online on PS yeah these 200 games look free to me.

I don't pay for PS+ extra, I own an Xbox just for gamepass. Calling it free is ridiculous when you're actually paying a fee to access the catalog. No matter how good the offer is, it's not free it's a subscription. Once you stop paying, you can't play those games anymore. People are pissed and down voting me despite this being literally true.

Was your whole point "hey guys, you're paying a subscription"? Because we kinda knew already...

[–] Virus_98@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

OP literally states they're not much of a gamer, it's very possible they don't know what gamepass is. They don't know you have to pay the subscription fee to access the games that the guy above was calling "free". But do go on trying to make yourself feel better by literally spending money and still call it free, all it says is Microsoft marketing team did one hell of a job convincing so many people to think a certain way about subscriptions lol.

OP literally states they're not much of a gamer, it's very possible they don't know much about gamepass.

And? The first thing they'll see is it's a subscription. You were right to remember them the games were not theirs to own, but I fear that part got lost in the rant.

[–] Virus_98@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

And maybe OP doesn't wish to pay a monthly subscription fee for a console that his kids will use that telling them it's free is not full context of the service itself. Literally use your brain a little, you're so ticked off by me just stating a factual statement "it's not free, it's a subscription" lol.

[–] UltraChilly@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I you used your brain you'd realize nobody said game pass was free and OP is probably not stupid and checking what game pass was is probably the first thing they did when they heard it mentioned here, if they didn't know beforehand.
Why do you think everyone is stupid? That's not things you should have to warn people about, yes paid subscription services cost money, they're clearly advertised as paid options, it's not a fucking grey line in an insurance contract or anything.

[–] Virus_98@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Giving someone full context vs thinking of them as stupid are 2 very different things but ofcourse you wouldn't know that much because you're too pissed off on behalf of a corporation to realize that.
