The early story they have you in basically a field, about to go to a huge event called the proving. There is this aura like the guy your with isn’t going to come and you’d be on your own (or maybe grow up a second time) and just have me this feeling like “it’s about to start over.”
I'm playing HZD yet again and just finished the proving. You definitely don't lose your gear. Even if you're separated from it, it's extremely brief before you grab it again.
Random helpful tip: each vendor has a free reward box you can buy. There is no limit to how many you can carry (I've had 15+ pages of them). Later on it's a good place to leave emergency resources since it doesn't take up inventory space. I leave the ridgewood and wire in them in case I run out at a bad time.
I really hope you enjoy the game. It's probably my favorite from the last 10 years. It can be a slow burn for some people, but the story revelations hit hard. You also feel like a badass when you master the combat.
Lol, that doesn’t happen at all. I mean you do go off on your own, but you don’t lose your gear. You’re still in the tutorial area.
I wouldn’t spend too much time upgrading green/common gear and do recommend trying to get the purple/rare over the blue/uncommon. Even then, with different weapons, it mattered more about which types of bows I preferred and worked best on which machines (I.e. don’t use fire against fire machines). Slight spoiler: there are times you might not have access to everything due to a quest or cutscene, but you get all your stuff super quick.
