Baldur's Gate II
You lose an NPC who can join your party very early in the game to an unavoidable story event. Adding insult to injury, if you do a lot of side quests before progressing the story, you can dump a LOT of xp into them, which is then just...*poof*
I mean, he was a thief class. He had it coming
Couldn't you get him back later or is my memory faulty?
can't get him back. there is a forced fight with him.
however you can take his heart (item drop) to a cleric once you get back to the main land and they'll cure the geas placed upon it, ensuring he goes to his proper afterlife I believe. (i haven't done that quest in 15 years or so)
That does ring a bell
Plus he was one of the most charismatic characters! He was so fun!
If you take back his heart to the temple in Athkatla and get it purified of the geas you get a fuck ton of XP to make up what the character took as part of your party.
