This is a dumb way to think. You upvote if the content is good or you like it, and you downvoted if it's bad or you dislike it.

Upvoting any post means garbage can be pushed to the front page, like this!

Even if there weren't competition (and there definitely is, spend some time in the New feed if you want to see some really bad posts that don't make it there); I'd still want the best ones on top.
