People are desensitized.
Most services or products have some toe dipped in shady shit, so people have been forced to learn to reconcile with participating more or less in a least some unethical bullshit, just to have a normal life.
Want to have a t-shirt? Probably just supported slave labour.
Want to talk to a friend? Probably just sold you digital soul to a megacorp, and at least two foreign powers.
I get what you're saying and I also completely understand why people have become desensitised but there's nothing more dangerous than an apathetic society.
We can't end world hunger, but we can atleast feed a poor person. We can't end child labour, but we can atleast sponsor a child's education and basic necessities.
Just because we can't end it all doesn't mean we shouldn't try and contribute to make our society a better place in whatever way we can.
I agree, and its one of the reasons I push the people around me to think about how the world works more.
I can't fix everything, but I'm doing what I can, and I try to get the passive people I can get to, to snap out of it.
You said you couldn't understand these people, but it's possible. And doing so, is step one of getting through to them.
I don't think that just because some people don't abandon Reddit now means they're apathetic or desensitized in general. There's so many things wrong with the world and not everyone can and will fight everything all the time. People have different item on the top of their lists.
I'm certain you are doing things in your life others would be flabbergasted at like you are here. For example: Do you eat meat, tuna, stuff with palm oil? Do you have pets? Do you drive a car? There's people out there who'd call you apathetic to the problems these things cause.
I'm certainly not a saint 100% of the time because if I tried I'd fall apart. Like everyone else would.
Edit: removed double negative
I think the biggest takeaway here is time. I have a massive to-do list and priority list, and realistically I don't have the time to research every single product I buy, what services I subscribe to, nor do I really have time to volunteer because I'm working so much to keep myself and my wife afloat. I do my damnedest to make informed decisions on products I buy, but at the end of the day, there is not such thing as ethically sourced gasoline. I'm down to do something or anything to help change society, but every option at the moment either gets you locked up, made a mockery, or made a martyr.
Your so right. All these things are because of capitalism. If we could tear that down we may get a chance to fix things. But as long as it exists the world will keep getting worse.

The hope I have is that one day, with all the wealth this country has amassed through capitalism, the government can redistribute that wealth to improve the quality of life for citizens. Use that wealth to improve health care, affordable education, build a shit load of homes for people, I can go on and on.
It's not wealth itself, it's the way it's used.
Absolutely true, when i saw that there are even people defending Reddit i just had to get rid of it.
I want to distance myself from this shit or my blood will boil over.
Cheers to a new home with people doing something against these megacorp practices these days.
"But companies must make profits! It's what they are for!"
It's disgusting. As if corporations technically being soulless, justifies them behaving in the exact way that implies they would, and do.
