Big brain tech dude got yet another clueless take over at HackerNews etc? Here's the place to vent. Orange site, VC foolishness, all welcome.

Saw this around 19h ago when it first started making waves and I’ve been background pondering it all day
Because
Just how the fuck do you make this mistake at stage size event? Stage lighting is a “you contact a gear company for that” level thing, for it to be any good
By the images available, this didn’t seem like a slapdash setup. And while it is possible that this might’ve been the result of “eh, why do we need to pay for all that rental? Let’s just do it ourselves, with NFTs, blackjack, hookers, and blow” I’m not sure how likely that is
It takes some truly stunning incompetence and clusterfucks to achieve. Now, don’t get me wrong, the coiners and apes have that solidly covered, but still. Been an itch on my brain for hours.

So that answers that, I guess
Seems inappropriate to laugh about this. People spending a fortune on a worthless ugly monkey png deserve ridicule, but not permanent eye damage just because they went to a party with their fellow marks.
good call. I edited my post a little so hopefully it reflects my point better — eyes are delicate as fuck, and it’s very foolish for yuga labs and some of their bagholders to try and minimize how dangerous this situation was, since getting timely medical care after severe eye damage is crucial if you want to keep your sight (I may have some recent experience with that last part)
Did you try to look the basilisk in the eye
Don't look at the abysss
hmm, when I looked up the medical term the resources assured me symptoms were temporary - but if this is the third time this specific thing has happened recently, he might know from experience that this will not go well long term
Yeah I guess it might depend on repeat exposure per person?
I also couldn’t find much ito dosing discussions around the condition, so I have no idea what the effect impact of this may be at 1h vs 4h vs 8h+ etc
Either which way, remarkable clusterfuck
damn...it makes too much sense that it's cheaper in bulk... I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that they paid more thinking it would be some kind of premium black light.
contrast with the cryptobro toxic positivity from the attendees quoted in the 404 article:

@froztbyte The stage contractor is often a different company to the lighting contractor, and it wouldn’t surprise me too much if they blew enough of the budget on the stage and PA that they decided lighting could be a DIY job. Bet they didn’t bother with public liability insurance either, although as this was gross negligence their cover might be void anyway. With any luck they’ll get taken for every JPEG they have in the bank.
@froztbyte Ah, the mighty Big Clive has spoken on the subject. https://youtu.be/6DlfLthx89E?feature=shared
