I'm interested in doing this but I don't want to have a computer/server running in the background 24/7. I'd do it if I could use like, an old cellphone though lol

You could use android phones and apps, but I would also recommend checking out raspberri pi's. They are essentially tiny computers at about the same scale as a phone. Low power usage, quiet, and you can do quite a lot with them!

If you do deploy a Pi tho, for the love of God PLEASE don't use an SD card. Even the cheapest SSD is faster and way more reliable.
