A lot of this probably has to do with dying physical media. As streaming and digital " purchasing" becomes more prevalent fewer people are finding the need to buy physical media so there's less of a reason to upgrade their DVD players for hundreds of dollars. The people who are buying UHD are those like myself who want the brighter colors and picture and those who got 4K through a separate purchase like a game system
