Nah, it was during the Tea Party era that made Republicans go crazy. Trump just actually managed to capitalize on something for once.

It was far more than that. The Tea Party signified when psychotic Christians took over the ideology, which regardless of Obama, opened the door for charlatans like Trump.

The racists were already on board with Republicans.
