Interesting that they are being so public with this. Their previous spycatching efforts were much quieter.
I wonder if this is them attempt to tell the US to fuck off publicly, or if this is them speaking to the international community to tell the rest of the world that they shouldn't put up with US bullshit either.
Probably also that is will help encourage support of government by the people if they hear “the other governments are spying on us” and that would help internal matters as well. Probably a combination of that and what you said
