I ended up paying for the unlimited $25. Figure it is worth supporting the business model and saves me a lot of time and frustration. I really wish it was $10 for unlimited though, but I do use it enough to get my money's worth with thousands of searches per month.

You can also try Mojeek, Whoogle and Brave search for free.

Thanks! Replying so I remember to check them out tomorrow, but I’ll probably eventually relent and get unlimited too. With how much I apparently use it, probably worth it in the end 😅

If you aren't already using bangs that can help to keep the number of Kagi searches down. It doesn't count towards your search count.

So for example I setup some custom bangs, and you can make it so you don't even need to type the "!". Like the letter L will take me to the first result in DDG feeling lucky. I could type "l verizon" and it goes directly to Verizon's website without using a search.

I also did that with a bunch of other sites, so I can search Wikipedia with w, imdb with imd, wolfram alpha with wa, etc.
