More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

I can't make sense of this article. So did the ship actually enter UK waters, or was it just close to entering them and it spooked us?

So far, the ship has complied with international rules of navigation

All I'm getting from this is "a Russian ship sailed in international waters but near to the UK, and we think they're doing something sinister but they didn't break any rules so we can't do shit"

Basically it followed international law but entered our exclusive economic zone which isn’t owned by the country but means we have the rights to the resources in that area or zone. Usually an exclusive zone economic zone extends 200 nautical miles from the country’s land. Mostly if a hostile military ship enters an area of interest they’ll be monitored closely.
