I mean that's just throwing your hands up and giving up. Does it suck? Yes. Is it what we wanted? No. But does giving up do ANYTHING?
Maybe not what you and me wanted, but certainly the majority of humans on this planet. And what am I supposed to do aside from the things I've already been doing? I'm already poor, so my emissions are a fraction of that of the average person, and I vote for green candidates & parties, who have no to barely any chance to achieve anything.
We were on our way to 3 degrees Celsius globally BEFORE all this already, which would be already devastating, so how the hell is the world now supposed to not just do better than that, but also compensate for all of the US emissions on top of that?
No one wants to do anything, at least not enough, not what would be needed - because that would ultimately affect everyone.
Get armed and trained?
Not possible and I fail to see how that's going to help.
You seem like a devoted environmentalist, and someone who understands that poverty is a hard trap to shake your leg out of. I support strong social safety nets like basic income so no one is put in your position.
But let's get real. It's not possible due to your location or finances? How would it help? You could stand with the rest of us when the shitstorm finally comes to our doors and fight.
But for now, especially if you don't have regular work, look into local mutual aid. You don't have to pay any money to join, or even start something. You just have to show up and help your community. If you start by picking up litter, someone is going to stop and say thank you. You can turn that moment into something different. Pressure them and say hey could you help me do this on Saturday? If you get then in then your can become friends. They will be abhorrent of your poverty and maybe try to help. Just roll the snowball. It's easier said than done I know.
Both.
Stand with whom? And do what? The majority of people don't want to have climate policies, since they'd directly affect their own personal comfort. What makes you think they'd suddenly play revoluzer? And what shitstorm do you mean? Most of the severe consequences will be way off in the future and by the time things get worse, people will align more and more with the people who promise empty shit and to deal with all the climate refugees at the borders. You'd be made an example at that point. And honestly, if you were this determined, why not do something extremistic now? If you truly believe in some sort of armed insurgence in the future, why not go and blow up some fossil fuel & high emission shit? Why wait for when things become more and more inevitable?
I stand behind my anonymity and my gauged responses. I don't know where you are but if the fascists come biting at my door they'll find plenty of lead.
I would never do extremist things, those things are morally wrong.
I just think that when we got fascism latching on to western governments it might be a more pressing concern than climate change. Not because climate change isn't the main fucking problem, but because they will ignore it.
Drill baby drill!
Again, by that metric you should already act now, because the world is collectively ignoring it.
Either you didn't read my comment or you didn't get the message.
