I just don't understand the mentality of telling someone you're blocking them either. If they're a troll, you're just going to make them feel smug about having pissed you off. If they're engaging in good faith, it makes you look like the asshole.

Like... What would they gain by telling you they're blocking you?

It's just one view, but I read it as some schoolyard attempt at having the last word.

Nearly everyone can see that it's a load of childish bollocks, but it's a nice red flag to avoid a world of hurt trying to engage with them.

Maybe I'm just too jaded to deal with clowns any more.

I suppose that kinda works when blocking on a platform like Reddit. On the fediverse though blocking is just a mute, so they still get to reply to that comment.

I dunno. Honestly this whole chain is so bizarre I’m wondering if they’re ok.

Besides, if joking about fascism is so bad then why is Charlie Chaplin regularly credited with torpedoing Hitler’s mystique? I think it’s honestly a civic duty to mock authoritarians. Shit, any person in a position of power should be mocked to varying degrees

Joking about fascism is bad because it hurts the fascists' feefees
