General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Every child will be blinded in one eye and forced to only walk down a high street with the blind eye closest to the shop front so they can't see the Fried Chicken and Pizza sign.

Amputate little Jessica and Johnny's legs and give the severed legs to wounded veterans. Now the children can't go into the fast food joints unaided.

Cut off baby Simon and Louise's hands so they can't eat as many chips or pizza in a given amount of time.

These and many other positive solutions will be pioneered by this government to cut obesity.

Everything except make sure every household has parents that can cook, have enough to fill a fridge and cupboards with decent food and they have the time to sit together and eat. Not parents run ragged trying to hold down three jobs to barely put the basics on the table and only have time to throw a takeaway at the kids because they're too tired/overwhelmed to cook.

Tax is a diminishing return; we learned in the nineteen seventies that 97% tax rates don't help raise revenue because only the poor pay taxes. When the top taxes were reduced to 40%, the revenue went through the roof because there wasn't enough saving in avoiding the tax to make it worthwhile.

If you don't know your history, you're condemned to repeat its mistakes.
