A UK-centric Electric Vehicles community, where discussion/news of the wider European continent is welcome.
All discussion of EVs (and hybrids for the moment), charging networks, etc, welcome!
No USA/Americas news unless it is relevant to the UK/Europe - most of the existing EV communities on Lemmy are awash with US discussion, please use one of those. US news and discussion will be removed.
The main "global" EV community is !electricvehicles@slrpnk.net

This was an exception - a truly good looking functional modern electric car. That made a noise... A NOISE THAT PEDESTRIANS COULD HEAR, something lost on other manufacturers.
And what a cool noise it was, like a creature from the future
Genuine question, what would you want to hear from a vehicle?
I'm not taking the piss or anything, it's just the new gen of eleccy cars have done what combustion engine designers have dreamt of overnight, and made for a quieter car - but what would you want as a pedestrian? A fake engine note through a speaker? A bell like a tram or a bike? A flashing strobe?
I'm fortunate enough to have decent sight and hearing, so I can generally hear the tyres cracking even if I'm out running - would love to hear from someone who either wants more noise from them, or needs other sensory input due to disabilities or other accessibility issues.
Above a certain speed the tyre on road noise becomes loud enough to indicate a vehicle. Hmm I suppose any sound will do but a fake engine noise or rising and falling electronic whirr would do fine, o people don't walk out Infront on a heavily parked street.
I really hope Renault use this sound system on their new models.
