I've been staring at Guilty Gear from afar basically since Xrd -Sign- came out, thinking it looks kinda funny. When Beloved BrisketThese and other goofy thoughts crystallised recently when Taigen Moon used Potemkin's theme from Korean Guilty Gear XX as the theme for a Gamefan documentary. Guilty Gear has the same appeal as mid-00s Sonic I think, that thing where it constantly wobbles between being kinda eyerolling and earnestly cool as fuck. It's also rare to see an anime game with actually good art instead of generic slop, and the overarching story sounds pretty rad.
So I'm attracted to GG exclusively for vain reasons, and I've never really played a fighting game before so it's obviously a really good idea to smash my head into one of the fastest and most difficult ones there is. I put Guilty Gear X, X2, and Accent Core on my PS2 and Accent Core Plus on my Wii U. Gonna try to play on low latency displays or just a CRT. I am scared though, Arcsys is gonna bully me probably. I like Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising so I figure some of that might transfer, but weh scary fightan gaem.

::: spoiler gamebrain Real ones play Guilty Gear exclusively for the story and music so this is incredibly based of you. I have basically the same interest in the series, I'm really into its OSTs and overall narrative, but I suck so bad at fighting games that I can only barely play it. I am noticeably better at playing the trans characters though which I find amusing, Testament being my main in Strive for this reason.

Wait trans characters PLURAL????? THEY PUT MORE TRANSES IN GUILTY GEARS!?!?I wanna be good at it, my wife used to play a lot of Street Fighter so she could probably 1v1 me if I acquire any amount of skill whatsoever. Out of all the fightan gaems, this seems like the funniest one, bar maybe Slap Happy Rhythm Busters or smth.
I was mad to discover that X Plus and X2 Reload have japan exclusive story modes

Technically Testament isn't trans but rather just agender in the 'I am not human and don't need this' way. But they're also agender in that Japanese X-gender way which is a trans thing irl so I count it. They were also explicitly X-gender before Bridget was trans actually. Testament is also literally me frfr, they build mecha model kits, play board games, write scifi, and collect fashion magazines. Absolute most relatable character in fiction with all of their 35 different canonical hobbies.My friends always kick my ass but it can be fun sometimes just to play something they enjoy while I groove to the music.

Rollback is in fact gud, very based =) seeing footage of old Wii matches in like, Budokai Tenkaichi or Brawl makes me laugh, we have come so far.
