Would be interesting to hear about the best Black Friday deals of products/services that are of particular interest to digital nomads and exchange them here. Black Friday does really seem to be the moment with all-time low prices and the right time to buy any stuff you were already thinking of buying. I'll kick off.

V P N
As I know proxy software and V P N s are a topic often discussed here (for good reason, although sometimes excessively) I'll start off with a resource with Black Friday deals (it also lists some other types of software that can come in handy for digital nomading).

Flights/airlines

Of course, this is highly dependent on your location. Thepointsguy lists Black friday deals for a couple airlines, including Air Canada. More airline deals can be found on this page. Additional suggestions welcome.

Booking.com

For Black Friday, Booking offers 30%+ additional discount for bookings made before November 29, 2023 (discount applies for accommodation reservations until end of 2024). Pretty interesting as Booking often already has quite good deals (although before actually booking I'd still consider directly contacting the actual hotel/guest house yourself to see if they can get you a better price than Booking is offering).

Luggage/suitcases

Not convinced where to find the best deals yet. Perhaps the community here can help out.

Please feel free to share additional Black Friday deals of interest to digital nomads.

After doing a little research on cheap countries to live in and not being able to find the straightforward answers on the cost of living I was looking for, I decided to scour the web and start crunching numbers myself to put all of the info in one place.

Here is a list of most countries with monthly cost of living for a single ex-pat.

I'm continuing the crunching to include other essential information in a straightforward way - safety, internet strength, air quality, other perks (long term visas, easy citizenship, access to other countries, etc.) and will keep updating the full data in the article I'll dedicate to this here.

Hey nomads,

I purchased 2 Slate AX routers and am plugged one into my home router and the other one I will take with me. I setup the server and everything on that is working fine. Problem is, I just can't get the client to connect. I setup a port forward and have followed the steps and even hired someone to help me that couldn't figure it out. Does anyone know what may be wrong?

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

I am going with option 3 for the VPN and originally ordered two Opals for configuration but did a speed test and saw I have 150 mbps for both download and upload speed. Is it worth it to upgrade to Beryl or Slate since they have higher max speeds via wire guard? If so, should both my home and travel router be updated or just one of them?

For reference the listed wireguard speeds: Beryl - 91 mbps Opal - 65 mbps Slate Plus - 170 mbps

Hey guys 🙌🏾

Any recommendations of free and reliable apps or website for swapping home with other digital nomads worldwide?

I'm a Portuguese citizen and remote worker living in Ireland.

I own an apartment in Cascais, in Portugal, 15 minutes walks to the beach, and I'm barely there. As I travel very often, I want to swap it to save in accommodation.

Another questions, my apartment is renovated and I do everything to keep it modern and comfy, do the swap platform guarantee the same standards when swapping?

Actually I'll be in Lisbon from the 2 to 24 December and then I'm going to Latin America (Brasil, Argentina and Peru) for the winter and it would be great give it a try in those countries.

Thanks in advance

A search engine & aggregator for nomad-friendly accommodations. Browse the map for listing all over the world.

I use skyscanner and skiplagged for my initial searches, then book direct on an airlines website if i'm able to. Just curious what other sites you all are using these days. I will say that recently I have noticed that sometimes the airlines own website has cheaper fares than these aggregators seem to find. Maybe its because they only crawl every so often, and I've caught price drops on the airlines website before the aggregators picked them up.

I'm currently paying taxes in my home country (UK) since I have a regular job with a UK company. I live in Estonia with a DNV (and most likely plan on staying the full year).

Technically, if I stay more than 6 months I need to pay taxes here, however, they seem to make it quite complicated and expensive, given my employer doesn't have an entity here.

This just got me thinking whether you guys in a similar situation just ignore this and assume nobody will say anything, or do you do everything by the book? Or do you make sure you don't stay more than 183 days?

Hey all!

This may be asked before so I apologize in advance. I'm planning to shift to Europe next year and was looking into digital nomad visas. I'm flexible with the primary residence but I want the DN VISA that lets me freely travel across Schengen countries.

Can anyone suggest which VISA should I apply for? couldn't find any concrete details on this.

Can anyone suggest which VISA should I be applying for?

Thanks in advance.

How have people found internet in Morocco? Is working off a SIM card a better option? Any preferred cell networks? Bonus points if you can tell me about internet / SIM card performance in imsouane!

Thanks

It seems most people on here are focused on budget-friendly travel and the alternative is r/expat or r/expatfire both of which are super long term focused (1 year+) not 3 months at a time the way most digital nomads prefer to live.

Wondering if there’s a sub to discuss travel for those of us aren’t on a budget?

Hi.

I work full-time fully remote, and I am not the greatest socially.

I have the brainstorm that some sort of monastery like location, where I have a separate room, but where there are shared meals, and some sort of unforced spiritual presence, would be good for me. The meals and spiritual presence make it more difficult to isolate as I often do.

I am U.S. based, and for various reasons probably should stick in the U.S. for now.

Any ideas? Even if it's not a spiritual place per se, but somewhere you found these things.qxHostels in concept do this. But most are more crass in reality. Still, maybe you know of one where the dream is real.

If it's a special place you don't want to share with everyone, you are most welcome to DM me.

Oh, uh, also, I don't like the cold. Just to make the search more difficult :)

Hey Y’all - Has anyone stayed at a Selinas in Costa Rica while working? Any thoughts? Warnings?

I work in high ticket remote sales, a space where most roles are 1099 contracts. However, I was just offered an insane role, great earning potential, benefits, etc, and it is a W2 role. I have been DNing in Mexico for the past 2.5 months but I'm heading back to the US to spend the holidays with my family. After the holidays, my plan was to go to Argentina, but my question is... is this possible on a W2 contract? Just wanted to get everyone's insight on this. I'm sure it really comes down to the company and their rules, but is there anything inherent about a W2 contract that prevents you from working outside the US? TIA!

From what I read on this sub, the focus seems to be in developing countries or Eastern Europe. Just curious as to why US/Canada isn't as popular as DN?

I get that it's more expensive but there are ways around it. I think the beauty and stuff to do in such country tops a lot of places!

Just being curious and would like to know your point of views, not trying to take away anything from other countries :)

We're two people, will mostly be camping/tenting and going to an occasional hotel every now and then. Focus will be on nature/national parks, but also cities, towns, and cabins every so often. Will mostly be cooking our food but go to restaurants every now and then.
Cost includes everything except car payment. Hoping to do $40-50 a day for two people!

Do you think this is doable?

I am a digital nomad based in Germany. I know that destinations in europe like south italy (i.e. Puglia) or Sicilia are more expensive and very crouded during the big summer holidays (July-end of august).

I have to be around europe in june/july and I am searching for a good and affordable place to live during that time, preferably areas in Italy/Spain or Hungary/Croatia/Greece or anywhere else really.

I'm looking forward to your recommendations!

I'll nominate Manila.

It's weird some nomad will judge you based on your origin. Like if you're from Asia you're poorer than US or EU people. I joined a few dn meetup that's what I felt. I know I'm Asian but I'm not a passport bro or digital brokemad. I think I make slight more coz I work for US company (without being an American, hey, it's possible!). Stereotyping is as annoying as being racist. Maybe experienced nomad won't have this attitude.

I recently took a 4 month roadtrip around the US. The sights I saw were unbelievable and I've never said "wow" as much as in the US. My trip was concentrated in nature/national parks and wilderness and some places brought tears to my eyes.

I've been to the countries in question before but for a short time (2-4 days) and saw some main highlights but I was never wowed by anything to the same degree.

I constantly try to tell people how beautiful the US is but it's like nobody believes me and those other countries are always the popular countries when it comes to "beauty." People even say the natural beauty there BURY the natural beauty in the US and I just can't believe it! Heck even defending the US gets me downvoted.

Is there really a country with place more beautiful than the combined beauty of Glacier/going to the sun, Mt Rainier, the hikes in Washington, the oregon coast, Colorado, sequoia, fall in New England, the views in Alaska, scenic views of Blue ridge parkway, I can continue lol and I've only seen 10 States so far!

Mine was probably the KFC in Larkana, Sindh, Pakistan (the closest city to Mohenjodaro).
