The consultation, running from 7 November to 18 December 2024, invites local people and businesses to review the proposed changes and provide comments. Notable updates include streamlined application requirements, additional safety checks, and new guidelines for street trader operation times and locations.

These changes are designed to support compliance with current health, safety, and food hygiene regulations, ensuring that street trading in Central Bedfordshire is safe, sustainable, and community friendly.

Read more and have your say – your voice matters.

An online session is taking place on 21 November from 6pm to 7pm where we will answer any questions. To participate, register by 20 November by contacting partnerships.communityengagementteam@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk. Printed copies of the consultation document are available at local libraries or by request at consultations@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.

Councillor Tracey Wye, our Executive Member responsible for licensing, said:

This updated Street Trading Policy reflects our commitment to supporting local businesses while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our communities.

By modernising the policy, we want to provide clearer guidance for traders, reinforce important safety standards, and introduce environmentally responsible practices that benefit everyone. We encourage all residents and businesses to take part in this consultation, as their feedback is crucial to shaping a policy that best serves Central Bedfordshire.

After the consultation period ends, feedback will be evaluated for a Licensing Committee review in March 2025, with a final policy decision expected from the Full Council on 24 April 2025.
