I use Google Drive with InSync. It's not free, but it's a good piece of software I've been using for years and it does everything I need.

Personally I've had good luck with Anker products -- they are reviewed to have robust protection circuitry and semi-frequently go on sale so they're not super expensive.

Thanks for the response, and agree, they would definitely need to be settings that are togglable since they affect important parts of behaviour.

Just thought I'd suggest since they've been on my mind, but certainly not deal-breakers and I understand if you don't want to add additional settings!
