I'm not sure I understand how I could use polling in this case. Would I just keep sending requests to the endpoint to see if there are any new messages sent or something like that?

Never really thought about it! Thanks, will take a look

Yeah I was thinking about EC2 as I've used it before for another project. Wanted to see if there are any other options just in case.

Will take a look at that, thanks!

Hi everyone, me and my friends are thinking of making a Telegram bot to use GPT-4 as one of us has access to the API.

We're not going to release the bot to the public (only use between us), however we'd like the bot to run 24/7 so it's accessible whenever one of us needs it. Sadly we can't host it ourselves as neither of us is able to get a Static IP and has a free machine to run 24/7.

My question is, are there any recommended hosting providers (if it's free even better) where we could host our telegram bot on? Thanks!

If it becomes available for Kbin that would be wonderful...

How do you ensure that your data (files, photos) is backed up when using Nextcloud? I'm very paranoid having all my files lost due to a drive failing.

Ah, if Obsidian would've supported hand written notes using a stylus or something, I would've switched instantly. It's sad cause I don't want to keep using Samsung Notes tbh, but it feels like my best option so far.

Can you use that with a tablet to make hand written notes?

Yep, saw another user mention this as well. I never knew this was possible, makes things so much easier haha.

I haven't checked Kbin's API documentation, but I assume (and hope) there is a post API endpoint.

edit: Just checked and it seems like you're only able to do GET requests at the moment (link to docs). Will be waiting for updates from @ernest in this case.

Ah it seems I wasn't the only one who thought about this - https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/38958/Bot-that-will-repost-reddit-content-to-kbin-fediverse#entry-comment-159480 !!! Fully support this idea, will join the magazine and see how I can contribute to mirroring content from Reddit to Kbin.

I don't think it has copyright implications, as the other user has shown, unless it's some original work. I wouldn't mind the posts on the Fediverse mentioning the original authors on Reddit and even linking back to the post just in case.

I don't mind doing it manually (I was planning to do it for now anyway), but it would be nice to have an automated process for that. Plus, I don't think Reddit will ever allow content migration to Fediverse, considering they were censoring stuff related to Kbin/Lemmy a few days ago...

I've been thinking about this today..

If there's a divide among people who want to still use Reddit and others who want to try out the Fediverse (Kbin, Lemmy, etc), I believe it may be a good idea if we had a bot that could mimic at least the posts (and maybe later even the comments) on subreddits that people are missing out here in the Fediverse. This can at least help populate the emptier communities that are here on the Fediverse and incentivize people to remain here without the fear of FOMO (myself included).

Is there any existing solution that could provide the necessary functionality? How feasible would this be if someone would start working on this now, considering the Reddit API changes?

Hi everyone, not sure if everyone's heard of /r/beermoneyuk. It's one of the subreddits that helped most as a student to have an additional source of income and I really miss it since moving to the Fediverse (I can't seem to find the alternative here).

As such, I've decided to at least open it here at @beermoneyuk. I wasn't a mod there, just a relatively active user. My hope is that there are others like me who'd like to continue sharing this kind of valuable information with others without relying on Reddit.

If any of the mods show up from Reddit, I'll gladly give them ownership of the magazine/community. I don't want to monopolize it or control it in any way. The only thing I want is for it to remain alive without only existing on Reddit. If anyone would like to join, feel free to! As I finish my exams, I'll try to be more active in there and start sharing the information that I have.
