I was just considering an HP printer as next. Sure it will be another brand who respect customer choice.

You may compare both as, is possible to share the same profile between the 2 apps. Actually I rely on Thunderbird, as I use it since the beginning, and it has the functions I need. Perhaps I will give a try on the Betterbird as well.

The problem is that OTT services are going to the adv model too. They expect that we pay a minimum subscription cost and watch advertising.....this is crazy

I see it's normal for me. If an account is inactive, the user perhaps has created another account or not using Google services anymore its money saving if we consider all personal data, ie 15 Gb per user, which are stored and maintained without reason.

I'm using Gmail but I have also some other accounts from internet providers and a electronic certified mail which can be used for official communication with institutions or companies in Italy. I have also a proton like service with another address... Everything controlled with FairMail which I recommend as excellent mail client. Basically there's no need to use one or the other but you may also use both depending of the type of message, I guess

I understand. In this case we should blame the streaming companies about it and if I need this function I have not much choice apart illegal download.

Thanks. It's interesting but I'm traveling a lot for business, and I need offline content. That's one of reasons to use Chromebook for me .

I agree, and of course the complain is for the Reddit API, not for Relay, which is a great app, and I if they will provide a Lemmy version of Relay I may use it too. What is non-sense in the Reddit API, is that Reddit should value users comments, the platform has value because of users interactions, posts, etc. so it totally a non-sense that user, should pay to participate on Reddit. I may just understand a free donation model, or even the personalized ads based on your interests.

I have used years ago different download platforms, years before Torrent, in the time of Napster, Emule etc. but so far the official streaming service provide a good offer, without wasting time. I don't think it worst the effort to download illegally ie comparing with price of Prime. I see now a tendency when the platform cost will increase and users should, in theory have 10 platforms, where i may understand the reason for people returning to illegal download. The streaming service companies should think carefully before increasing the price or creating new rules to share the cost.

I'm another user escaping from Reddit and I hope more users will come in Lemmy too. I understand that patching apps may allow to use Reddit for more, but it's just to extend life of dead man and mostly wasting time.

You can install from Android or from linux environment, but last one is a virtualization and it's a bit slow.

In my desktop at home the main OS is Ubuntu, basically since more than 15 years, but I own also 2 Chromebooks laptops. I have a Lenovo Duet which i use mainly because I can run both Android and Linux apps, and it allow me to watch streaming services in offline. I would prefer to use any "gnu-linux" distro on a portable device, but if you wish to watch Amazon Prime or Netflix offline, you can only use a tablet with Android or iOs but on linux pc you are limited on web app typically, except in Chromebook which has some extra flexibility. Also I don't find invasive so far, more or less we have the same privacy settings as in Android. As benefit it's supported for 10 years for OS updates. And, in the future I may also decide to install a pure linux distro if I need.
