I'm sorry that you have such dark thoughts and negative feelings because of this :( there's a very loud, very vocal minority of women who believe men are inherently evil (and there's a large overlap with terfism too). But that's just the thing, they're a minority. Obviously much of what they say is based on truth- that's how they persuade others to think like them- but it's not worth listening to them because their intentions aren't in the right place. You're absolutely right that communities like that are bad for one's mental health, too!

Wishing you well, stranger.

Most of the techy stuff goes over my head, but I do understand the importance of giving credit, as a student in the world of science academia. It looks like you're handling the situation well. We're all human, we all make mistakes, and plagiarism is a serious thing that slips under our noses sometimes. You're learning from this experience, which is a good thing!

Isn't the whole point of the fediverse to have different instances with different rules and cultures, and them all having the freedom to associate with (or to not associate with) whichever other instances they choose? Boohoo, an instance is using their freedoms in a way you aren't! Don't get so upset over what Beehaw chooses to do. People who agree with Beehaw will hang out there more and people who don't will move elsewhere. This is the natural way of things, isn't it?

Finally passing all of my first-year college classes. It'll be my third year attempting them. I'm a disabled student, so I split the courseload into two years, but then I failed a few of them this past year... I'm trying to stay positive. I'll pass for sure this time!

Immortality means no obligations to complete tasks by any deadline, which means I'll never get anything done and will procrastinate until the heat death of the universe. I'll stick with the flesh body, thanks.

Reporting their content means the content can be moderated which means us normal folks don't have to suffer the displeasure of reading hateful garbage

EDIT: oops, lack of comment collapsing confused me. I misunderstood! Sorry!

The internet has a big problem with people forgetting to read things with nuance, which leads to the behaviour you described. In the past decade, social media has convinced millions of people that all-or-nothing thinking is acceptable (because it causes conflict, and conflict is cash).

Most casual users of services aren't tech-savvy enough to know how to pirate. It's easy to forget that pirates are the minority when the seven seas are so popular.

I'll enjoy the peace while it lasts. If/when the Fediverse becomes mainstream, psyops and ragebait and disinformation will migrate over because there's always someone who can profit from it. :(
