I've been trying to find some inkling of positivity for Europe in the Trump win and us getting up off our collective arses to more quickly ramp production capacity and closely aligning on collective defence is the biggest win I can see coming from it.

Macron has already come out and said it in as many words.

Ah the UK and EU are inexorably intertwined. Don't stress too much. We're still best buds.

Europe has been fucking pumping money into Ukraine. Now we need to start pumping arms in. It is ludicrous to imagine that this hasn't been prepared for. The only question is whether our arms production capacity will be enough or ramp up quickly enough.

Financially absolutely. We do not have the military industrial complex to replace the armaments that the US has been providing however.

I'm sure Ukraine has been preparing for this eventually but I really fear for them and the medium term consequences for us all if Putin gets his way in this war. :(

Well that's fucking terrifying. Project 1997.

Jesus Christ that last thought hadn't even entered my head. I can't see Poland or the Baltics putting up with that though.

FML.

And don't forget his impeachment over Ukraine too. He is going to fuck them hard. I really hope Europe can pick up the slack on arms production quickly.

I'm gonna grasp at that being positive. My favourite band at a ripe old age, Sylvan Esso, are from NC.

Honestly surprised that 16% of Irish voters would go trump but 84% Harris is pretty solid.

Did you get your sausage?

Me: Ireland - Approximately 2 minutes until poll in hand is the longest.

I've been seeing long lines for the US elections even for early voting. Seems completely unnecessary.

Pashtunwali (Pashto: پښتونوالی), also known as Pakhtunwali and Afghaniyat, is the traditional lifestyle or a code of honour and tribal code of the Pashtun people, from Afghanistan and Pakistan, by which they live.

They just crossed the line. Very tight race in the end.

Live tracker here.

Mine have built a decent number of very small scratches and they're getting annoying so I'd like to get rid if at all possible.

I've seen various things suggested including:

  • lens scratch repair kit (reviews don't look great on amazon)
  • baking soda paste
  • non-abrasive toothpaste
  • furniture polish (temporarily fills in the scratch from what I can tell)

I'm reluctant to try any of them without some first hand accounts. No lens coating on these so no worries there.

Thank you in advance!

edit: I just want to say thanks very much to everyone. I ended up getting my prescription emailed to me and buying a new pair for €17 (about $19 USD) delivered on a site that one helpful poster linked. Looks like they will take about 3 weeks to get here so I'll put up with the scratchy ones until they get here.

When they do arrive I will take some pictures and test the various methods I found online then post up what works and what wrecks the lenses.

The stories from this trip are wild. edit: It was a school trip.

The sale of disposable vapes is set to be banned under proposals going to Cabinet.

The Minister for Health is expected to get Government approval to draft these laws which will ban the sale, manufacture or import of single-use or disposable vapes in Ireland.

Stephen Donnelly plans to introduce this ban on environmental and public health grounds.

Absolutely fascinating stuff. The power of social engineering, charm and confidence by two very young kids is mind blowing. Some very funny bits in it too.

An Australian man is set to appear in court after being arrested for the alleged theft of more than A$600,000 (€359,880) worth of commemorative coins linked to the popular children's television show "Bluey", police said.

The 47-year-old is accused of stealing 63,000 unreleased, limited-edition A$1 coins from a secure warehouse in the Sydney suburb of Wetherill Park in June, according to "Strike Force Bandit", a special unit police set up to investigate the theft.

"Strike Force Bandit" is honestly an incredible name. For those not familiar with the show the father is called Bandit.

I do it too.
