I did see that cloudflare tends to have a similar first and subsequent year price which is much more straight forward. I do actually have a domain with them. I was looking for another cheap domain to tinker with so I went for an 8 figure .xyz but from namecheap rather than porkbun as it was 85c for the year instead of $1.66 . Renewal price says it will be the same as the first year.
That is nuts! Nice tip!
You can get a couple of free VPSs with Oracle no credit card required as well. I've heard some people say theirs were shut down and I read somewhere that they may do if usage falls below a certain amount - I guess cause they're considered dormant. I've never had a problem.
For all my self hosted stuff I use nginx proxy manager behind a cloudflare tunnel. The tunnel connects to a container on the machine which sends everything to the reverse proxy. no need for vpn or port forwarding
I've been using the nextcloud RSS reader for a while now. Not the most feature rich, but it does the job for me.
I think it's great resource for deepening your home made campaigns, but cheapens publish material. I'd use it in my campaigns but if I ever wanted to throw it on Kickstarter I wouldn't feel comfortable without original work by Organic Intelligence.
certbot certonly --manual is what I need though I think cloudflare or something else is making it only resolve to https. I'm going to shelf this for now and come back to it later. Thanks for your help
I don't think I'm using the root for anything, just domain.com/.well-known/matrix/server. Would I be able to serve the challenge at domain.com/.well-known/acme-challenge/stringofcharacters?
I'm currently hitting an issue of lets encrypt failing to authenticate using the .well-known. The domain in the hosts file is lemmy.domain.com though I have a feeling this may have to be the FQDN. the base domain is currently being used by matrix to serve antoher .well-known so it looks like I'll have to add another page there somewhere.
I'm just going through it now. I'll keep you posted
Searx NG worked well for me. I currently have Matrix running on another, set up with the ansible docker repo. Actually trying to set lemmy up on another.
I converted to pay as you go so they would open up the smtp ports so I could use postmoogle with Matrix but i still only use the always free shapes and still havent incurred a charge in roughly 6 months
