Think of it like a mobile network, mastodon is t-mobile, kbin at&t and lemmy sprint ... you can talk to anyone you want but pay your bill in one place. Same with the fedi you have one home but can talk to anyone who federates with you or speaks your language ... in this case ActivityPub
