It makes it all the more attention-grabbing when you hit just the right mix of attitude, self-care, antidepressants, and stimulants that you can just do some shit and feel good about it, then even look forward to doing some other shit and getting that done too.

It doesn’t fix everything and it doesn’t stay that way without ongoing work, but it helps to genuinely know the feeling to help you going your way back there again.

Yeah I don’t know about y’all but I have plenty of family members who are addicted to being angry.

Aside from the fact that we’re talking about a civil matter between private citizens, you can legitimately get serious government intervention and punishment for certain types of speech. Let’s say you yell fire in a theater, or threaten the president, or publish classified national security secrets.

People who claim to be free speech absolutists (like one of the private parties in this discussion!) usually just mean for them or for stuff they disagree with.

On one hand, sure, I have eyes and a mostly functional memory. It seems clear cut. Incredibly lucky shitbag.

But on the other hand, as a proper American I know that the more money and fame you have, the more of a smart person and good human you are. It’s just a rule of nature. And if you’re a terrible parent estranged from your own children, that just shows how dedicated you are to the mission! How else are we going to get teslas and iPhones?

Hopefully I don’t need the /s, but Poe’s law exists for a reason.

Can you describe the actual effects somebody has described in one of those? I’m not even demanding a link, I’m just curious what the most common stories are.

But otherwise don’t expect this post to get a lot of support. “People are saying” is a very empty sounding Trump-like argument. Plus there’s the old saying that the plural of anecdote is not data.

The more you know! 💫

Definitely. Genuinely not understanding, coupled with a negativity-first mindset where people’s default position is cynical contempt for others, is a hell of a combination.

It’s almost a guaranteed attribute for the conservative MAGA types I know. Just assume somebody is a lazy ass working the system for that sweet disability check unless proven otherwise.

I have a chronic potentially disabling condition myself, and while the fatigue and mental effects are rough, thank goodness it’s not straight up constant pain.

Powerful oxidizers are dangerous stuff!

One I’ve learned about recently (and used) is potassium permanganate. One of its uses is for improving water quality in fish ponds. It oxidizes basically all organic matter. It can simultaneously knock out algae, bacteria, parasites, hormones, and other excess organic waste. And the pathogens it kills can’t build up resistance to it like they would an antibiotic or poison, so it can be used preventively without creating stronger bugs. You can’t really build resistance to BURNING outside video games.

But that also means that if you add too much, you can just as easily sterilize all life in a body of water, including fish and anything else you want to keep.

AND it means you need to be careful when handling it. If you burn your eyes or your lungs, it makes them stop working!

It’s not unfathomable to me at all, unfortunately. For so many people, empathy is seen as weakness and any issues others deal with are bullshit sob stories worthy of contempt… unless it happens to them!

Sun Solaris was my first *nix, and I have very strong memories of hanging out in the cluster of Sun machines as well as running a remote x window session from whatever overlocked Celeron win2k machine I had in my dorm at the time.

I think it’s also the responsible thing to limit our young people to the kiloton range until they are 21.

I can’t get enough of these familiar spacefaring faces!

Making my first Lemmy post because this moment in my DS9 rewatch made me think of you all.

I think I’ll call her Captain Gilora Lochley.

Also, DS9 is even better than I remember. It’s been a while!
