You don't need a "scientist" for that. Any medical personnel shoukd have a good chance to sufficiently preserve a piece of the specimen. If they had questions about how to do that, they could always call or radio a hospital or even university - the latter would probably be more than happy to lend support in such a case.
I's a mixed bag.
I've read a number of books when they were new. Some were OK, some were good (The Martian), and some sucked so much that I forgot their names.

I can understand a university offering courses about "History of" or "Societal impact of people believing in" with regards to magic/occult/whatever.
No-one in London cares about the rest of the country.
