Hold MAGA accountable. Every. Single. Day.

That institution is rotten to the core. No amount of this is going to fix it.

MAGAS are incapable of associating anything bad with their dear leader. Hold them accountable.

There is still waste involved into putting edible food in the compost. Growing, packaging, and transporting food all consume resources that go to waste if the food is not eaten.

Are unpopped popcorn kernels a significant source of uneaten food? Debatable.

Sounds to me like you are not very well read on 1930's German history.

Fighting fascism is a great cause to rally behind and give people purpose.

A constitutional crisis is very likely over the next 4 years. And if it does, all bets are off.

Holding Trump supporters accountable for their actions is the only way forward. There are no more excuses. Every bad thing to happen now moving forwards is 100% on Trump supporters AND complacent bystanders who chose not to take a stand. It was plain for everyone to see. Repudiate fascism and the toxicity plaguing the country at every opportunity.

I think issues are too complicated for uneducated voters to understand when lectured to. People can learn, but many often only in hindsight when they experience something first hand. The educated/uneducated divide sheds light on this so obviously. Which is why it is so frustrating. Not suggesting being educated makes people smarter, but I think people who pursue education are more accepting of lecture. Obviously.

Democrats have to stop and realize this. It's why there is no debate to be had with many Republicans. They don't think about issues through rational extrapolation and curiosity. Everything is an emotional response to the now. They are just wired that way.

The good fight. Keeping majority voters accountable for the choices they impose on everyone else is as much a part of democracy as anything else, especially with candidates who actually deliver on the promises they make during elections.

God speed. I hope you can be reunited with your family again.

Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me.

American individualism goes too far. It's just sad.

This is currently my primary frustration with Connect: complete opaqueness regarding instances.

I understand that one design philosophy might argue that instances shouldn't matter, so why show it at all. But it does matter, especially on All, and in comments. I think at the current and near-term state of development, obscuring instances creates more confusion than it alleviates.

  • In this example, I have no idea what community this is. Where is "here"? "General" is a super broad category (does a multi-community even make sense for this type of community name?). Is this /c/general for a general purpose instance, or /c/general of an instance dedicated to a very specific topic? Is that instance worth checking out? Who knows?
  • Is this an instance I'm subscribed to yet?
  • is this the same /c/general I was in last time with a moderation policy and moderators I didn't like, or a new one?
  • Is my instance defederated from seal_of_approval and will they receive my message? Who knows?
  • Are most responders coming from lemmy.world, from sketchy instances loaded with bots or is there good traction from smaller instances? Is there instance brigading going on?
  • Is this an impersonator of seal_of_approval?
  • is this a specific community that spams a lot and I should block it?
  • What moderation rules apply to this instance?

I can't block entire instances myself...

I realize that a lot of these problems have some sort of workaround by drilling down into community details and profiles. Ain't nobody have time for that.

I realize that specific UI solutions could be introduced to tackle each of these problems individually in a user-friendly manner. But we're not there and who knows when we will get there.
