I made an announcement post for my community here and it has a GitHub link. I think, the repository has a python script that'll do it.

Uh yes... There are instances (mine included) that'll automatically defederate you if you have too many users with too few interactions, so better enable captcha if you're worried about bots.

Thank you very much for the info! Maybe I'll give it a shot again.

I'd also suggest Immich, but with a warning. On their GitHub page, they state:

Did anyone actually use this over a longer period of time, including updates, etc.? How did it work for you?

Meine Güte, warum muss ich über sowas lachen?

Thank you very much for all your suggestions. In fact, I even plan to do my first seitan batch today. I'll follow this video and see how it goes.

I'll save all your guys suggestions and try them out, thanks again!

Hmm. I make the decision myself, nobody is forcing me. I have moral concerns, I care about the environment and I also have health concerns, too.

I'm not sure if I'll ever be vegetarian or vegan (I'd like to). For now, my goal is to reduce meat intake to one or maybe two times a week.

That's what I'm doing. I like to eat "traditional" salads and stuff like that, but I grew up with them being side dishes most of the time and I think, it's hard to break habits.

From a moral standpoint, I'd like to go vegetarian or even vegan at some point, but this requires me to find things that I'll actually like to eat on a regular basis. Often times, when I search for vegan recipes, something often throws me off. Be it the flavor, the texture, the strength of the flavor or lack thereof, etc. Maybe it's just that I'm not used to it or that animal fats are carrying so much flavor that I'm now kinda addicted to it? I know, it sounds really stupid, but when I go to the grocery store, I often gravitate towards animal products automatically.

My first goal will be to reduce meat intake to one, maybe two times a week.

If you're talking about me here, I understood why you were suggesting it. But to me, that's not the problem of c/politics in this case. They wouldn't want to rename, if it was possible, because "AmErIcA fIrSt".

I also know how to use keywords, etc. And maybe I went a bit overboard when I said Brave Search sucks. It doesn't suck, but with Kagi, I don't feel like a product any more and the search results make sense again, like with Google a couple years ago. Most free search engines just don't work that good any more.

If you would've told me 2 years ago that I'll be paying for a search engine in the future... Well, I would've thought that you're crazy. But here I am now.

Explanation: Germans ~~used to~~ (apparently only in my bubble) call cellphones "Handy" and many people still do that. My friends from america found that quite hilarious.

Hello everyone and a

HUGE THANK YOU FOR 1000+ FOLLOWERS on /c/fossdroid!

It's great to see that this community and this instance see some actual usage! That makes me happy. 😁

Thank you for all the really nice, civil and constructive conversations we had on here so far and let's hope that our community will continue to grow steadily!

We'll soon push Lemmy in the Automoderator messages, the banner and the description on Reddit, so we'll be able to lure more people here, hopefully. If you want to help, just spread the word!

Once again, thank you, thank you, thank you and have a great one!

Edit: Yes, I'm aware I just violated my own "no memes" rule. 🤣

✌️

Hey, community.

This one might probably trigger some of you. But just a question that comes out of the blue: What are your thoughts on it?

I first learned programming back in the day with Visual Basic 2008. Nowadays, I can program with C#, Java, PHP and some other languages rather well (I'm no professional, though), but I often come back to Visual Basic, because I'm just so used to it. Even though it's not that often, because I'm a Linux user.

But let's say I need a small program for Windows real quick? VB.NET is gonna be my choice. Right now, I'm implementing a board game server + client for the game of go (also called baduk or wei'qi) and I'm making really good progress.

I personally think that people should just use what they want to use. I don't get the hate for PHP and some other languages and I think this gate-keeping and god complex some developers have is really annoying. Makes me want to use VB.NET even harder.

I also don't like to jump on board with every new and upcoming programming language or library, just to be cool.

I'd also like to emphasize that I'm not creating software for a living right now. I do have a small company for a little bit of freelance work, but that's just money on the side that comes in by creating really small projects.

Just some cutsies enjoying the weather.

Hello, community!

After reading about all the things that Reddit has done to alienate their userbase (hostility towards moderators that put thousands of hours of volunteer work into their site, blatantly claiming their userbase's content as theirs, not respecting the choice of their userbase when it comes to content deletion, etc.), I'm currently planning to start a larger offensive on r/fossdroid to create more attention for Lemmy.

In order to moderate and promote this community, as well as this instance, I just appointed Astral Moira (@ostrich, u/ubertr0_n on Reddit) as moderator and 2nd instance administrator.

I always noticed on Reddit that Astral Moira has very broad knowledge about FOSS and is very passionate about it, so I think, they're a good fit!

RAWR!

Just look at him! Isn't he precious? Also, check out his brother, Dean!

Hey, there!

To get things going here and also because I'm interested in what kind of fun stuff you're running on your phones, I'll post a list of apps that I'm using daily or that are part of my Android experience.

To start it all off, I'd like to emphasize that I try to run FOSS apps almost exclusively and I also don't use Google Play Services whatsoever (not even MicroG). I do run some very few closed source applications in a separate profile with Insular, but I plain out refuse to run them if they flat out require Google Play Services.

Feel free to tell me what YOU are running in the comments!

My installed Apps

Apps not available on F-Droid

These are apps that aren't available on F-Droid, due to either containing non-free dependencies or other reasons.

  • Bitwarden^(GPL-3.0)^ | Powerful cloud password manager with auto-fill capabilities*
  • boum^(MPL-2.0)^ | Client for listening to music on Jellyfin*
  • Brave^(MPL-2.0)^ | Web browser based on Chromium with privacy in mind (I use it when Mull breaks something)
  • Record You^(GPL-3.0)^ | Record your voice or your screen

Honorable Mentions

These are apps that I wholeheartedly recommend, but don't use any more, because I replaced them with something else.

*CAN be used as a client for self-hosted services
**Offers additional features if root access is present
***Requires root access to be present
****Part of a Magisk module

Edit: Added some links and changed Infinity's description

Hey!

I'm running Lemmy on a arm64v8 machine at Hetzner. The latest update (0.17.4) isn't available for this architecture yet. Will a Docker image be provided?

Thank you very much for your work!
