The players are the biggest responsible. They decided Bruno Lage (which was not doing a good job, but also because players refused to adapt) needed to go, and they chose Claudio Cacapa, and then Lucio Flavio (an assistant without any experience as a coach). Brazilian players love assistants as temporary coachs, since they do whatever the players want.

John Textor, club owner, is also responsible for letting the players decide everything.

I dont think Botafogo would have necessarily won if Luis Castro had stayed - the group has many limits in terms of talent. But what followed Castro leaving is a big example of what not to do. 5 coaches during 1 League is too much.
