For me, I'd say Neverending Story.

Maybe because the movie was such a big part of my childhood so the book never had a chance to measure up but I was quite disappointed with it and found it really slow going.

Strangely enough, I enjoyed both the book and the movie versions of Timeline.

I am a hundred percent in agreement about Children of Men. LOVE the movie but the book was awful.
