I'm a Reddit NCD refugee, but I'm also a Twitter retreater. So I'm already aware of how the fediverse works through the Mastodon instances Mastodon.social and nafo.uk.

I like Lemmy. More options when commenting. I also like the properly functioning search bar. Mastodon really needs to improve that experience, because I still can't find specific toots from another server. It's either creating a new account or scrolling going to the site and then in the instance I'm logged in to then search for the right account to then manually scroll all the way to the right comment.

I'm personally not such a great fan of putting a website up into the cloud, because when the cloud becomes arrogant, they've the power to cancel websites like these. It never can hurt to have a local backup. Preferably encrypted to prevent people getting access to sensitive personal data like what happened with the anarchists hackers at kolektiva dot social. This was potentially damaging to the entire fediverse for all the accounts having a kolektiva accounts commenting here or vice versa.
