I guess it depends on which ones donβt move here. Right now itβs all of them, but that might improve later.
Weird niche ones like r/SpecEvoJerking. Speculative evolution is already super niche and that's a parody sub about it.
Is there a way of finding popular communities across the federated lemmyverse? And on a smaller scale can I find popular communities on my instance?
Edit: leaving for posterity, but! thereβs a βlocalβ and an βallβ in the communities browser: https://lemmy.world/communities/listing_type/All/page/1
r/greebles for sure! I got into their Discord though!
All the cat subs. If I was having a shitty day I could always go to reddit and look at other people's cats.
BestofRedditorUpdates
So much unnecessary drama, but can't stop reading
For me it's the German ones. I moved to Australia in the late 90s, and they help me keep up with things a tiny bit, so the culture shock isn't too big on my rare outings back home.
Also cats. Cats are nice.
Not ashamed to say trashyboners. Someone's gotta stand up for the trash of this world.
Thatβs how these things work. Reddit took its time. I truly think that Lemmy will benefit from apps that make the experience accessible.
I'm really going to miss /r/writingprompts, I've written a lot of stuff for them over the years. Sadly I don't see a replacement popping up here yet and their mods also didn't bother with the blackout protest.
/AskAnAmerican - It's interesting to see what the rest of the world doesn't get about us.
I participated quite a bit in r/whatsthisbug and r/spiders helping identify bugs (mostly spiders) for people. It was something I really liked doing, especially educating people about how spiders aren't things to worry about. Guess I'll just head back to iNaturalist for that content.
Other than that, more niche gaming communities were a big one for me. r/puzzleanddragons is a mobile game I play often and the sub was super helpful for news and game discussion/guides. I hope it can kick off here.
I will miss all of the pev (personal electric vehicle) subs like electric scooter and electric unicycle. Seeing others on adventures and getings tips and news was great
Emulation-related subreddits, for one.
I miss the Apple related subreddits, that community hasnβt really seemed to move over yet.
Itβs just cool to see the variety of refugees here sharing memories of their previous communities in the once glorious homeland made uninhabitable by the authoritarian regime.
Some of the industry specific ones like supply chain or logistics or even insurance were fun to lurk, and get a sense of what people in the industry think of those outside it
Forwards from grandma. HI JENICE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY. YOUR AUNT HAD VASECTOMY LAST WEEK AND PASSED AWAY IN HER SLEEP. L.O.L. XXX
I'm definitely going to miss the true crime/unresolved mystery/paranormal subreddits. I loved the CreepyAskReddit curation.
/r/apolloapp
A whole bunch of the ones around tabletop games. Mini painting, terrainbuilding, some of the game-specific subreddits that always have loads of userafe content.
If anyone has spotted these communities here in federation space please let me know; I didn't find any so far.
After just getting started learning to do my own car maintenance, definitely the subreddit dedicated to my model of car
R/reddevils. We are trying to reform it here but it will take time
I'm hoping r/gunners can be reformed too. And r/soccer.
Good luck with reddevils. I'm not a United fan but I want to see all communities grow on Lemmy! Football subs are what I spend much of my time in on Reddit.
I'm definitely going to miss LOTRmemes, PrequelMemes, CFB, ExperiencedDevs, CSCareerQuestions. a bunch of others, I was on reddit a long time. I'm definitely ripping of the bandaid here
Well first off, I'm gonna miss my favorite nerdy subreddits. r/wow, r/Morrowind, r/Oblivion, r/Skyrim, r/Elderscrolls, and even r/trueSTL. Happy that Skyrimmods is here though!
Aside from that though, r/botchedsurgeries, r/amitheasshole, and r/hobbydrama.
The rest would be various animal subs, but hopefully, they find new homes quickly.
The vinyl releases sub. It's how I built my collection.
Really gonna miss the discussion threads for pretty much any (current-ish) tv show, always my go to after finishing an episode. Also asksciencefiction was a fun one.
r/castiron r/cremposting r/absoluteunits r/old_recipes all my favorite corners of the internet
