The rover really does look helpful and effective, but I've been sweeped by its laser too many times to ever trust it

You just have to embrace that while the Rover is a team killing machine, it mostly respects its owner... mostly.

The same team that can't seem to understand we need to clear the small ground enemies before starting on the giant ones complain about the rover the most.

Lol that's exactly why I bring the Rover. I let it deal with the chaff while I dedicate the rest of my load out to killing heavies.

Yep, I have laser cannon and rover with a sickle, anything without armor is cleared out. Eagles and laser barrage for the big biggies. I rely on my team for the intermediate sized baddies.

People calling in my reinforcement far away from my Rover is the bane of my existence. I'll be like, "Sorry, can't help you with that charger, I gotta walk HALF WAY ACROSS THE GOD DAMN MAP!"

"but there's still 15 minutes of cooldown, now I have to go back across the map that nest with 6 chargers naked"

As a certified looter, I will pick up your samples/support weapons and backpacks when I find a way around. I usually go with EAT and 3 strike so my backpack slot is most of time empty. I usually drop it back to owner if they died in opening or if it's long cool down item.(like those util backpacks.)

After the mission, if you see the map is clean without much dead diver stuff on minimap, it's a pretty good efficient run. :)

Whenever I use the EAT it’s always faster to stick it to the charger and have the drop kill it than wait for my EAT

[–] PenguinTD@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 months ago

yeah, EAT for me is like 3 shots, including the drop. If you time it right and run around the charger so it has to turn slowly to charge you(if it starts turning CW you also run CW, vise versa), chances are it doesn't even finish turning when the drop pod arrive. stick to the leg or stick to the head doesn't matter.

Keep your filthy hands off my jet pack

[–] PenguinTD@lemmy.ca 3 points 7 months ago

Jet pack is the one backpack I unlocked but never bring to mission, I always pick up on the field. :P But usually I drop it and switch to rover or shield, or auto cannon+backpack. I find really little use of jetpack.

I think you mean jump pack. How else will I ~~run away crying like a baby~~ tactically retreat efficiently when my eagle is incoming?

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago (2 children)

The jump pack is one item that's just so fun that I'll pick it over a more helpful backpack every time.

I honestly think it's extremely good against terminids. Really helpful to get out of a tight situation or to get up on a rock and cheese for a minute

I love that this game managed to make the non meta weapons fun and effective to use.
