Lula is such an inspiration to the world. A great progressive.

lula is trying to privatize prisions, the overwhelming majority of people in there are the black youths he said he wanted to protect.

he sure has a way with words, but words alone are completely meaningless.

This, basically. International Lula is the best. Domestic Lula is almost worthless, and his biggest merit is not being Bolsonaro. His conciliatory/let's-be-friends playbook will pave the way for the next far-right lunatic and probably get him in trouble again.

I agree racism needs to be left behind along with many other hangovers from being a tribal animal.

Racism isn't a holdover is is actively perpetuated in order to defend the current system.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

i have some idea this is the case but how does this work?

[–] OurToothbrush@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 months ago

Racism serves to keep the working class divided and to create and terrorize an underclass

Being a tribal animal is fun, but you're right, those hangovers the next morning can be brutal.

I dont think you will find many people on here that will disagree, the issue is that who gets to define what racism is and who is doing it. If we go off what many americans call racism, most everything is racist.

[–] Immersive_Matthew@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I do not understand this. Can you explain what Americans definition of racism is then as it seems to be the same as most everyone else’s. What am I missing?

[–] CableMonster@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

If you googled it you will find that every conceivable things is being called racist by different people. The left side of america uses Critical Race Theory, which is a variation of critical theory, and in using that it can make anything racist.

I think you are referring to the noisy minority. Most Americans know what racism is and have the same definition as the rest of the world.

I would have agreed with you 10 years ago, but things are a changin. Does the rest of the world include "power" as part of racism? I think a large portion of the left side believes that black people cant be racist because they allegedly dont have power.

[–] Immersive_Matthew@sh.itjust.works 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You are talking about a minority but noisy group who have made up these new views to further their cause be left right or in the middle. Some people just make up things but they really are not the common person.

[–] CableMonster@lemmy.ml -1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The part about power is what probably the majority of the left side believes and says. I think most people on this website believe that black people cant be racist.

I am not seeing a lot of racism from the left not not a lack of recognition that it exists in the black communities. Not saying you see it differently as perhaps we just walk different roads but it is for sure not something I am seeing.

[–] CableMonster@lemmy.ml -4 points 7 months ago

I dont see any racism either, but the left side will claim there is more than there actually is. My whole issue is that what is catagorized as racism is going to vary wildly by people.
