On this day in 1918, the Finnish People's Delegation declared a socialist workers' republic (known "Red Finland"), at the start of the Finnish Civil War. The burgeoning working class movement was crushed by imperialist German forces.

Prior to 1917, Finland had been ruled as a Grand Duchy, an autonomous part of the Russian Empire. With the collapse of the Tsarist state in the wake of February Revolution and a long-term increase in nationalist sentiment, Finland declared independence on December 4th, 1917, formally recognized by the Russian Bolsheviks on December 31st.

Due to industrialized Finland having a strong revolutionary labor movement, conservative and proletarian forces were immediately thrown into conflict.

Red Guard paramilitary units representing the labor movement found themselves in a cycle of escalation with loyalist "White" Guards, culminating in a mass uprising of Reds in Helsinki on January 27th, 1918, marking the start of revolution. The following day, the Finnish People's Delegation was formed by members of the Social Democratic Party. Bourgeois forces fled to Vaasa, where they set up their own "White Senate".

The war saw the Whites, under the leadership of General Mannerheim, receive support from the German Empire, which was more well-established than the Reds' primary ally, the newly-created Russian Soviet Socialist Republic.

Following an imperialist intervention by Germany on the side of the Whites in March 1918, the war ended in defeat for the Reds in May. Over 12,000 people perished from starvation and hunger while imprisoned in White-operated POW camps, and reparations were not paid to former victims of the White Terror until 1973.

American Fiction was very good, although some lines/scenes felt a bit like left punching from a rich liberal mad at "Bernie bros" on twitter.

[–] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 6 points 9 months ago

The left punching wasn't really major, but at the same time I was like well okay not surprising Obama liked this and it was written by a guy whose dad was a rich lawyer and worked for one of the 1000 shitty daily show spinoffs.

Is it good? I like Wright but I thought it looked kind of lame I was really shocked to see it was nominated for best picture

I like girli a lot her songs about the wonders and hardships of loving women are incredibly relatable especially late at night when the place in my heart where all my old lovers live is hurting very badly.

Tradescantia (/ˌtrΓ¦dΙ™ΛˆskΓ¦ntiΙ™/[4]) is a genus of 85 species[5] of herbaceous perennial wildflowers in the family Commelinaceae, native to the Americas from southern Canada to northern Argentina, including the West Indies. Members of the genus are known by many common names including [...] Wandering Jew [...] In recent years there have been efforts to stop using this and other potentially offensive common names,[19] in favour of alternatives such as "wandering dude".[20][21]

Even in the context of being shacked up in a hotel that's mere minutes from the warehouse i deploy from, I just did a 12 hour door-to-door workday.

The cabin in our delivery vans is air conditioned... technically. It takes a few seconds to kick in and a lot of the time I'm already stopping and yanking myself out of the chair into the cargo area. The cargo area is not air conditioned. From the hours of 12 to 5pm or so, I was 1/4 to 1/3 of the way towards fainting.

I killed the gallon of water I bring with me today. And I consciously limit how much and when I drink water so I don't end up having to leave my route to go to a bathroom outside of my breaks. And I got yelled at earlier this week for taking one of my 15 minute breaks after my 30 lunch... so now I take both my 15's after I finish delivering and before I drive back to the station.

Anyway. Wahh.

Got an e-reader, finished reading Battle Royale (was pretty good), but now I have decision anxiety and haven't decided what to start next lea-breakdown

Maybe I start with downloading books I already own and have been meaning to read but for some reason or another just haven't yet. Or books that I half-finished and put down at some point (that's what Battle Royale was).

Bandai-NAMCO made all the Tekken 8 supers lame af as a joke, right? I haven't actually played the game, but I've been looking at the super moves / rage arts / whatever they call them in this game, and they pretty much all look less than 1/312th as cool as the most basic combos you could be doing.

Jin's (I guess he gets 2?) are the worst offenders, motherfucker literally sighs like he wants to go home, beat off in the shower, and go to sleep, then he gives us a shitty uppercut and a shitty jump-kick, doesn't even string that shit together in a cool looking way, and then he asks the camera-guy to send him his check in the mail and abruptly goes home. Use your whole ass why don't you?

Yoshimitsu's is cool at least.
