"Let's stay calm, but, come on.."

  • Charles Leclerc, Ferrari F1 driver
[–] ripened_avacado@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What was the context of that radio message?

[–] ZooGuru@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I think it was them trying to put together a good lap to get out of Q1. He was low in the order before going to the pit before the last push. That was about as much as I could surmise from the timing.

If it wasn't for their history, I don't know if any driver would want to drive for them. They can't stay out of their own way.

[–] Stylus_XL@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Ferrari's drop off in progress from the first half of last year is almost criminal.

kinda liking this new quali format so far

the hards are introducing a bit of chaos, I feel like multiple warm up laps might work well?

[–] jimbolauski@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I dislike the loss of tire use stragity. I like that teams are forced to understand how to get the most out of their car on each compound. Practice is a little more important, teams can't just focus on max pace with softs and race pace on the different compounds.

[–] ZooGuru@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

You make a good point but the format made for a good quali. It’ll be interesting to see how teams find strategy in this new format. That’s the best part of rule changes to me. Just when teams are comfortable with what they know, you switch it up!

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I was a little skeptical but I think it turned out pretty well too.

I'm optimistic for tomorrow, I think that's where we'll see the biggest difference with the new allocation. Hopefully there will more variety in strategy.

[–] herc@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

I was unsure about the new qualifying format, but that was a thrilling session

We came so close to a ham-ver-bot again!

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 11 points 1 year ago

Now that was a great quali. Really impressed with McLaren again, almost felt like both drivers had a shot at pole, even. Piastri keeps delivering.

Disappointed in Perez again, but I guess he made it to Q3 at least. Still, if other teams are approaching RB he really can't afford to be qualifying 9th.

Aston Martin being nowhere really speaks volumes. This was supposed to be a strong track for them. It really is starting to look like they just spent their entire budget over the winter and simply can't afford any upgrades. Everyone else is moving forward and they're just standing dead still.

Very excited to see Hamilton on pole again finally and with McLaren looking fast and several drivers out of position this is looking like the setup for a great race. Especially with how hard it is to overtake here a Hamilton victory isn't impossible.

Nice job from Danny, me thinks. Beat his teammate in his first outing.

[–] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

Yeah I think he did the best he could in that AT.

Hopefully there's a surprise tomorrow for him to be able to finish in the points.

[–] june@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I am kind of loving seeing a disappointed Max.

Lewis looks like a rookie with his first pole again.

Glad to see Checo back in Q3. Hopefully he continues to pull himself together.

Danny out qualifying Yuki feels like a statement. Looking forward to the 2nd half of the season.

BotAss for a change

So, what's 0.003 seconds turn into?

Like 9 inches at an avg of 175mph?

[–] Archive@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

https://youtu.be/YTtxA9r4w88

This video shows it well, Lewis gained some time in the 2nd sector then nearly lost it all in the final turn.

Very cool. I wish they had brake/gas meters too to see how they differed

Alpine: under new management

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Nice lap by Daniel! Hopefully it'll hold up

[–] fiah@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago

One tenth down from Tsunoda, not bad!

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm really interested to see if this tire allocation will mix up the grid at all.

[–] Jacob93@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Does the forced tire compound per session mean that everyone starts the race with the same allocations too? Or are the practice sessions still up to the team?

[–] ABeeinSpace@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Practice tire usage was still up to the teams as far as I know. The only forced tire choice is in Qualifying

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

In theory I don't think so since teams aren't forced to run and return a particular compound in each FP. But in practice teams will probably go into the race with roughly the same allocations.

Has anyone kept track of what the teams returned in each FP?

[–] TastyWheat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Same. Could be a fun one!

[–] espentan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Track really ramping up now..

[–] irrelevantButter@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hamilton pole. First time this season no?

[–] lurkandtwerk@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

First since '21

[–] fiah@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

Track evolution must be crazy

[–] Nighed@sffa.community 1 points 1 year ago

I guess this is showing up teams that can't make all the tire types work

[–] TastyWheat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't expect Danny Ric to beat Yuki this weekend being his first in the car, but I'd love to see it close.

[–] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Should’ve expected it. The McLaren wasn’t the right fit for him, but when he’s in a car that suits his style Danny Ric is a beast.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 1 points 1 year ago

Oh dear, awful timing for Hamilton. Gonna need to work real hard to heat those Hards.

Didn't end up mattering, but I was worried everyone would put in a better last lap again
