What I love about this is that it's exactly the kind of thing he'd talk about on his show, which would be hilarious and also add more exposure the the whole thing.

Can’t wait to see him respond to it. Maybe he will post a couple of saucy pics on the subreddit himself to contribute?
Sounds up his alley.
I predict a show segment where he does a photoshoot for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
I don't like linking to Twitter, but John Oliver acknowledged it and tweeted some photos for Redditers to use: https://twitter.com/iamjohnoliver/status/1670179738348933120?t=58hT7Y7ZMhwZ37CIxgeRdg&s=19
For sure he’s going to talk about it!
The writers strike is still ongoing though, bad timing for all of this; he would have been a helpful voice.
Hold on... Are there any OTHER types of John Oliver images?
I read this in John Oliver’s voice…
This is epic. Trolling level 10. Spez wanted to force them to reopen, so they did, but burned the subreddit. I can't wait for r/gaming to be only about ping pong, or r/videos to be only cat videos.
You can not force a community. And Spez has unintentionally created a community, just one that hates him.
I feel like /r/videos only being cat videos would still make it a worthwhile sub. Make it so that any videos shared that are above 240p are against the rules and subject to be automatically deleted.
/r/videos should become self posts only to discuss retro video formats, like betamax vs. VHS.
I would unironically love that.
If anything, that would just undercut the 300 other subreddits already devoted to cat videos.
Only allow ai generated videos of sexy John Oliver
r/movies should only allow content about silent movies. None of these modern 'talkies'.
John Oliver is a California Ten.
Edit: John Oliver talking about a Steve Mnuchin clip: "Now, I know it was hard to pay attention to what he was saying, because you were just automatically undressing the guy with your eyes and you do it whenever he opens his mouth. Am I right? I'm definitely right. The guy's a California Ten, He's a smokeshow." https://youtu.be/RKjk0ECXjiQ?t=643
Brilliant. I look forward to John Oliver's episode on capitalist social media companies like Twitter and Reddit fucking their userbase
The one downside to the writer's strike (that I've so far since there was a lot of content banked) is all the late night comedians' missed opportunities. Of course, I fully support the writers. I hope they get everything they are asking for so that we can get back to watching the amazing stuff they produce!
Ahhh, very good. Excellent loop hole. It's possible spez will still try and force pics back to it's former popularity but this does follow his rules ...
Spez probably:
Motherfucker. Move those goalposts again. But no threats! just expectations!. Also what am I paying you for. Less loopholes in our doublespeak.
Absolutely based, r/Steam is pics of Steam engines and such right now. r/wellthatsucks is pics of vacuum cleaners iirc
r/interestingasfuck is now an NSFW sub with hairy buttholes.
Wait, I thought the objective was to reduce traffic to reddit.
It's funny for a day, but it'll be a graveyard in a week, I'm guessing.
I think this is the best possible response to being essentially forced to reopen.
Forcing mods back is one thing, but it's a lot harder to bring back users once they've found another chew toy to gnaw on.
Or rather it's a lot harder to bring back users and make them stay if all they can see are sexy pictures of John Oliver
Reddit admins: "Stupid sexy ~~Flanders~~ John Oliver!"
Ahh, I returned to Reddit for the vote just to learn that vote is over :(. If you are interest in the vote's result and do not want to visit Reddit, feel free to open the spoiler
spoiler
Voting has now closed.
Our final tally is as follows:
Return to normal operations: -2,329 votes
Only allow images of John Oliver looking sexy: 37,331 votes
It would seem that the community has spoken!
ah thanks, I updated the post with the relevant information.
Seems like fate that its kind of a reverse 1337
I support the writers strike of course. But sad we won't get a new episode of Last Week Tonight where John has to comment on how he's bringing the sexy back to /r/pics
Assuming the writers strike doesn't resolve before reddit unfucks itself.
That's pretty funny even if you hate John Oliver
Honestly think it's funnier if you do hate John Oliver
This is glorious.
I’m curious what spez will do about this.
Double down somehow of course
New Reddit policy: Anyone who posts a photo of John Oliver is permanently banned.
Redditers rush to post as many photos of John Oliver as possible and thousands of users are banned. The postings of John Oliver finally stop, but since the most prolific posters are now banned, all other postings also grind to a halt.
Why was Jonh Oliver chosen?
I don't know him and his relation with Reddit, I think I might need some context XD
He usually responds well to weird stuff like this and there's a chance he'll mention it on his show.
He's a comedian with a great show on HBO (or whatever it's called this week.) Look up some of the segments on YouTube.
This is quite literally one of the funniest things I have seen. Absolute genius move.
Finally they give the people what they want
This is the best thing I've seen all month.
