Meta has started blocking news content for some Canadians on its Facebook and Instagram platforms in response to a proposed online news bill by the Liberal government.

The blocking of news content is affecting some French-language media organizations, smaller local media outlets, and even larger Quebec newspapers.

News Media Canada's president claims that this blocking is an abuse of Meta's dominant position and sets the stage for hostile foreign actors to spread misinformation and disinformation, thereby weakening its own shareholder value, social cohesion, and democratic ideals.
