I've gotten into Duolingo speedrunning, and I'm pretty good at it, and I want to compete against others. Are there any Duolingo speedrunning communities or Discord servers around?

Lemmy doesn't really have the traffic to support ultra-niche communities in general yet, sadly.

It doesn't even seem to be a category on speedrun.com, yet so I'd start with creating that first.

Thanks, I think that it's because probably some people speedrun Duolingo, but it's just not popularized

I can't say I've ever heard of Duolingo speedrunning, but I already love the concept.

Iโ€™m very interested in your retention! Are you able to actually learn stuff?

[โ€“] mdwalters@pawb.social 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I don't really get the question, do you mean like how do I memorize the words in a Duolingo lesson?

[โ€“] retrieval4558@mander.xyz 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

No like do you maintain any proficiency in the languages you speedrun

[โ€“] mdwalters@pawb.social 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yes, I sometimes use (virtual) flash cards to help me remember the words in the languages I do. I do a few flash cards, and add a few words to the deck after I do a lesson.

But do you actually gain any ability to read and write the language outside of duolingo

Yes. I do speedrunning mostly just for fun, and I do most of my Duolingo lessons normally.

You can try !languagelearning@sopuli.xyz, but the community is not that large at the moment

I don't think they'd be too pleased, directing OP to a community about language learning is like directing someone interested in a brick throwing competition to a masonry community

Were there Duolingo speedrunning communities in other websites like Reddit and Twitter, or is this something you're trying to get off the ground?

my advice would be to start recording your runs until you find a community

[โ€“] mdwalters@pawb.social 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I have, once, but my channel isn't as popular that I would be able to start a community of speedrunners just from my videos

Here is an alternative Piped link(s):

I have, once

What are you speedrunning? An entire language?
